HEIDI, female, 191100002270040, 01.06.2023. in the shelter since 10/2023 Heidi was found as a small puppy dragging herself along the street. One of her legs was broken and had already healed completely crooked, while she could barely stand on the other with support. After numerous vet visits, and when she began collapsing on her front legs, an elderly veterinarian suspected neosporosis. We tested her, and the result came back positive. That was the beginning of an almost year-long fight for her life. Neosporosis had already attacked her spine, leaving her tetraplegic — she couldn’t breathe or swallow properly. But despite everything, she showed an immeasurable will to live and stubbornly fought on, and who were we not to help her in that? Heidi pulled through after long-term therapy and became known all over Croatia for her incredible strength and determination. Today, she eats, walks, and runs with her wheelchair, plays, enjoys life, and lives like any other dog with a disability. She is with Aleksandra and enjoys every minute of her life. She loves walks — if you let her loose in a meadow or an empty parking lot, she’ll race so fast you’ll have to run hard to catch her. She is a miracle.
